I have no problem with the inclusion of my parents, nor with the inclusion of their dates of birth and death, nor with the inclusion of my own name. I think that with the huge interest there is these days in people tracing their roots, it is certainly OK to use the names of living persons which may, as you say, lead to contacts with more distant relatives being established.
