In the 1881 census, Margaret Croall was working alongside Sarah Balmer, whose son Robert married Edith Lewis, daughter of Margaret's second husband, John Lewis.
Margaret Croall had a large family by her first husband, William Davidson, and she brought two of the youngest into the Lewis family home on her marriage to John Lewis.
There is a family story that Mr Davidson was related to the Singer Sewing Machine family, but so far we've found no proof.
