Janet Suttie Gray LEWIS [707]
General Notes: (2003, Note by her half-sister, Mary (Lewis) Young) Janet was born at her grandmother Beatson's home in Kinghorn. Dad was there too, and couldn't remember his wife's maiden name when he registered the birth at Kinghorn. However, 5 days later in Glasgow, he got it right! Janet had rheumatic fever and St Vitus' Dance as a child (perhaps these are connected illnesses? - check). The rheumatic fever damaged her heart and although she went through school, trained as a typist and started work, her health failed in her late teens. She spent some time in hospital, fading away, and just after Allan was born in March 1940 the family decided it was best for everyone if she were nursed at home. She had very wild auburn hair, I remember brushing it as it lay fanned out on the pillow. Perhaps the auburn hair was a Beatson characteristic - John's descendants in Canada have it, and it doesn't appear in the Hoggarth descendants. Noted events: Janet worked as a munitions worker. 2 |
