Noted events: William worked as a common labourer, iron foundry worker. 30 Mar 1851: not found in Scottish census. 9 May 1859: William was married from 116, Glen Street, Glasgow (age 32, widower). 1 7 Apr 1861 census: age 36, common labourer, head of household at Govan, LKS. 3 2 Apr 1871 census: age 45, iron foundry labourer, lodger of William Bolland at 3, Thomsons Lane, Glasgow, LKS. William Cardy (45) and his eldest son, also William Cardy (20) were in lodgings. Two other children, John and Agnes, were also in lodgings about a mile away. 3 Apr 1881 census: age 54, "William Cairdie", foundry labourer, pauper inmate at Abbey Poorhouse and Lunatic Asylum, Crow Road, Paisley, Renfrew, Scotland. William married Isabella MACKENZIE [6178] [MRIN: 1485]. (Isabella MACKENZIE [6178] was born about 1823 and died in 1858 in Calton District, Glasgow.) William next married Ann BOWIE [307] [MRIN: 1454], daughter of James BOWIE [9492] and Jane STEWART [9493], on 9 May 1859 in Calton District, Glasgow.1 (Ann BOWIE [307] was born about 1822 in Dunblane, PER, Scotland and died on 1 Aug 1889 in Combination Poorhouse, Stirling, STI, Scotland 4.) |

Glasgow Govan Deaths 1888 648-?/????.
1888 February 3rd. WILLIAM CARDY died in Govan Poorhouse, aged 65 of cardiac disease. Same Cardy as married Ann Bowie/Porter, as corroborated by parent details on death register entry. Also confirms that William was widower of Isabella McKenzie [information from Ken Stevens, a Mather descendant].
