Noted events: Henry worked as a carpenter. 2 6 Jun 1841: not found in Scottish census. 30 Mar 1851 census: age 30, journeyman carpenter, in lodgings with Janet Glen, spirit retailer at 4, Broad Close, Greenock, RNF. The ancestry index doesn't show whether Henry declared himself "single" or "married". His wife Ann Bowie was living in Glasgow with a John Molvey, and probably had a child with him. 1881 census: head, unmarried, age 55 at 179, High Street, Dumbarton, DNB, Scotland. 3 He signed a will on 16 May 1886 in 179, High Street, Dumbarton, DNB, Scotland. Although Henry had probably not seen his wife, Ann Bowie, for more than forty years, she was in Dumbarton when his property was inventoried, and she claimed his estate amounting to £36 15s 8d (about £2,750 or $5,500 today). Henry married Ann BOWIE [307] [MRIN: 146], daughter of James BOWIE [9492] and Jane STEWART [9493], on 18 May 1840 in Gorbals, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland.1 (Ann BOWIE [307] was born about 1822 in Dunblane, PER, Scotland and died on 1 Aug 1889 in Combination Poorhouse, Stirling, STI, Scotland 4.) |
