Noted events: 5 Apr 1891 census: age 7, daughter of John and Edith Lewis at 8, Tamworth Street, Glasgow. 4 31 Mar 1901 census: age 16, daughter of John Lewis at 348, Blythswood Terrace, Clydebank, Dunbartonshire, Scotland. The family had two lodgers, both young single men, electrical engineers. 5 1905: Mary was married from 250, Glasgow Road, Clydebank, Dunbartonshire, Scotland. She travelled from Scotland to Canada and back in 1928. This was a round trip to take Robert Gardner to his father in Hamilton, ON. Mary Banks "Polly" Lewis emigrated from Scotland to Canada in 1931. 6 Mary married David GARDNER [4367] [MRIN: 1284], son of Alexander GARDNER [4497] and Jane AITKEN [4498], on 25 Aug 1905 in Clydebank, Dumbarton, DNB, Scotland.1 (David GARDNER [4367] was born on 4 Mar 1882 in Rutherglen, LKS and died on 27 Aug 1963 in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada 2.) Noted events in their marriage were: 13 Jan 1913: they resided at 18, Dumbarton Road, Glasgow. 7 Mary next married Svend Aaze HOLM [4368] [MRIN: 1285] in 1940 in Canada.2 (Svend Aaze HOLM [4368] was born in 1901 and died in 1974 in Canada 2.) Also on this ship was: AGNES LEWIS and her son JOHNNIE LEWIS (age 2), they were also going to New London, ON.
ALEXANDER GARDNER arrived in Halifax, Nova Scotia on the Cameronia 8 Jan. 1927 and was going to his Dad, David Gardner's, home at 43 Robert Street, Hamilton, ON.
His mother was listed as Mary living at 3 Newbridge, Partick, Glasgow..
EDITH GARDNER arrived in Quebec, on the Athenia 11 June 1927 and she was also going to her Dad's at same address as Alexander and mother's information was the same. (Edith Gardner)
JEAN GARDNER arrived in Quebec on the Letitia on 22 July 1928 and she was going to here Dad's, David at 331 Wentwoth St. N., Hamilton, ON,
Mother's information was the same as for Edith & Alexander.
MARY (LEWIS) GARDNER AND ROBERT GARDNER arrived in Quebec on the Athenia on 29 Sept. 1928 and they were going to David's at 331 Wentworth St. N. Hamilton, ON.
Mary's Father name was listed as John Lewis, 3 Green Road, Yoker.
MARY (LEWIS) GARDNER and JEAN GARDNER arrived Halifax Nova Scotia on the Scythia on April 13, 1931 (10 days after Alex & Marjorie were married) They were going to David's at 546 Barton Street. Also showed brother John Lewis, 17 Nesbitt Street, Parkhead, Glasgow.
So now we know that Polly brought Robert here in 1928 and then went home. Jean came in 1928 and then went home and they both came back in 1931.
