Iain H. Fraser 2009-04-30 to Mary Young re Jessie Mackay 1891-1925 and her children.
Just ... picked up on Janet Mackay born 9 Sep 1891, Modsary.
I have just completed an appreciation for Geordie Gunn in the Northern Times - he died in Migdale 7th April, 2009.
His mother was Janet (Jessie) Mackay of Modsary daughter of Neil [Mackay] Modsary. She married a John Mackay, who was killed in 1917 in the First World War. She had two children - Jenny and John. John was born in 1917 after his father's death. Jenny married Tommy Mackay ( Brown) Bettyhill and they ran the PO in Bettyhill for 7 years before moving to Inverness and then retiring to Bettyhill. I shall try and find out further information on John.
Janet Mackay following the death of her husband, John, in 1917 had a son (George, 30 June 1925) illegitimately to John Gunn (Hondie) of Tubeg, brother to Alexander Gunn, Clashnastruag. Janet was to die in the October of 1925, and thus George was looked after by Mrs Ross, Lamigo, who was Agnes Gunn's granny. Apparently George was so small he was transported to Lamigo in a shoe box. He was transferred to his birth father's family when about two years old.
