While researching the children of Robert Newlands (schoolteacher Tongue) and Grace Forbes I have found that their daughter, Marion Carruthers Newlands (1842-1901), married DONALD MUNRO from Modsary. Donald is the son of Alexander Munro (weaver) and Caroline McIntosh from Modsary. He was born 10th September 1836. Donald and Marion married in Pimlico Chapel in London on 15th September 1871. Donald was a Police Sergeant. The witnesses were Marion's brother Hugh William McKenzie Newlands (a Police Inspector in the Metropolitan Police) and his wife Mary Ann. Donald Munro died in North Leith, Edinburgh in 1896. At that time he was Inspector of Police, Leith. Marion died in 1901, still living in Leith. Her death being registered by her brother Hugh from London. I have found no children from this marriage. I have not found Donald on any 1861 or 1871 census returns, so do not know if he was a policeman in London at the time of his marriage or had just travelled down for the ceremony. The Newlands family moved to Modsary from Braetongue after the death of Robert Newlands in 1854.
