His grandson, Robert Wallace Campbell, reports: "we heard from Uncle Joe Lewis that Robert had been pulled out of the rubble of the Singer plant, after going back in to rescue his mates trapped after a bombing run!"

ROBERT CAMPBELL 52 labourer, labourer widower of Edith Lewis died 3 July 1942 at 1301 Govan Road, Glasgow [Southern General Hospital], usual residence 12, Byron Street, Glasgow no parents named - spaces scored out cause cerebral haemorrage, certified; informant Andrew Dalrymple, occupier. Registered 23 July 1942, alongside two other deaths at the same Hospital which occurred on 22nd and 23rd July. Possibly Robert also died on 23rd but wrongly written as 3rd. [Note by Mary Young: Robert Campbell was not a widower. Edith Lewis was still alive and she and Robert never divorced, as far as we know.]
