Robert JAMIESON [11143]

  • Born: Abt 1845, Paisley, RFW, Scotland
  • Marriage: Helen BEATSON [539] on 23 Jul 1875 in Glasgow 1
  • Died: 3 Jul 1882, Churchyard Lane, Riccarton, Ayr, Scotland aged about 37 2

  General Notes:

Mary Young's note: I have been unable to find a birth for Robert Jamieson or Robert McLure, nor any trace in the censuses 1851, 1861, and 1861.
His marriage to Helen Beatson also remains a mystery!
In 1878, Helen declared they'd married 23 July 1875 in Glasgow.
But they were still unmarried in 1876 (Susanna was registered as Jamieson, she was illegitimate but her father Robert Jamieson co-signed the birth Register).
But I suspect suspect this couple never married.
1876 birth of Susannah registered illegitimate
1878 birth of Helen reported legitimate (parents supposedly married in 1875)

  Noted events:

Robert worked as a general labourer, ship carpenter.

3 Apr 1881 census: age 38, general labourer, head of household at 61, Robertson, Kilmarnock, Ayr, Scotland. 3

Robert married Helen BEATSON [539] [MRIN: 1476], daughter of Robert BEATSON [509] and Janet MORTON [294], on 23 Jul 1875 in Glasgow.1 (Helen BEATSON [539] was born in 1844 in Cowdenbeath, FIF, Scotland and died on 23 Nov 1921 in 64, Titchfield Street, Kilmarnock, Ayr, Scotland 4.)

  Marriage Notes:

(Note by Mary Young)
On birth of at least one of their children, Robert Jamieson and Helen Beatson declared they married 23 July 1875 in Glasgow - but they had a child after that date who was registered illegitimate! I have searched all Scotland records between 1870 (when Helen gave birth to Janet Beatson aka Janet Jamieson), and 1881, but eventually concluded they did not marry.
